The Client

Speedy Freight Exeter was contacted by a fine art freight forwarder, responsible for sending high-value artwork and antique furniture to clients all over the world. This level of logistics requires not only a dedicated courier service (which doesn’t co-load one client’s goods with another’s in the same vehicle) but a deep understanding of the requirements of such a high-value consignment. The client in question required support with the movement of delicate, valuable artwork and antique goods between auction-houses, moving back to the client’s location for packaging and crating before they were to be sent worldwide.

Speedy Freight Exeter understood the importance of getting these consignments out safely and securely and were ready for the challenge.

The Challenges

The goods needed to be moved safely and securely from the auction-houses where they were being auctioned to the client’s destination in Exeter, ready for packaging and shipping. Each item needed individual care and had to be packaged and moved by Speedy Freight in a manner which suited each item’s needs. An antique wardrobe cannot be transported in the same way as a priceless painting, so Speedy Freight had to allow for each individual item’s needs. In addition, to move whole collections, Speedy Freight needed to provide large vehicles - requiring a varied fleet.

The Consignment

In order to account for these differences, Speedy Freight provided the client with multiple vehicles from its 4,000-strong fleet. The vehicles provided by Speedy Freight Exeter ranged from small Luton vans, perfect to house individual pieces, to 7.5t trucks capable of transporting entire collections.

The items were then collected from auction houses and delivered back to Exeter, before being packaged and shipped internationally. Clients awaited the pieces in almost every corner of the globe, from the US to Canada to South Africa!  Thanks to Speedy Freight’s knowledge, expertise, and varied fleet, not to mention high GIT insurance and conscientious drivers, each piece was transported on time and in perfect condition.

The Conclusion

Speedy Freight Exeter welcomed this challenge, which required high levels of communication, coordination and dedication. Speedy Freight’s drivers are well-trained and conscientious, which was a key aspect of Speedy Freight’s success in this case. From this assignment, Speedy Freight Exeter implemented such a refined strategy for the movement of fine art that the branch now successfully promotes this service to artists and galleries throughout the South West, and regularly ships unique pieces for exhibitions throughout Europe.
