Thriving Speedy Freight depot cleans up the Auldhouse Burn

APRIL 2019Glasgow-based Speedy Freight has spent a day litter picking in the Auldhouse Burn which runs past its new offices. The company, which has grown substantially since its inception in 2014, recently moved its premises to Southside Glasgow and decided to mark the occasion with activities designed to give back to its local community.

“Our business development manager, Emma Durnin, suggested that we clean up the Burn which runs outside our new offices, and which was heavily polluted with litter,” says general manager Damian Pacitti. “The team and my family spent the day clearing the rubbish, recycling what we could and taking the rest to our local waste collection point.”

The company also made a generous Easter gift to its local food bank.

“Our clients are all local, as is our team, so it’s very important to us that we invest in our local community, not just in commercial terms but in time and support,” says Pacitti.

The Speedy Freight depot turned over £1m in the past financial year which represents a six-fold increase on its debut year.

“We are very proud to have offered such a valuable service to local businesses that we grow every year. This is reflected in the job creation we’ve achieved, growing from a single person office to a team of five and the host of local drivers that we employ regularly,” says Pacitti.

Speedy Freight specialises in urgent and sensitive freight deliveries – those deliveries which are needed immediately, require special handling, or are hard for companies to predict in advance. The company works extensively across several sectors such as precision engineering, shop fitting, packaging, doors and windows, furniture deliveries and for major high-end retailers. It also provides a bespoke service to 3PL logistics organisations for unusual or urgent deliveries they can’t manage.

Although much of Speedy Freight’s work is booked for the next day, the company offers a 60 minute collection service for cargo that really can’t wait – and the freight is also delivered without stops to collect or deliver anything else on route.

“We keep business moving by being the ones to step in when a production line might come to a halt for lack of a load, or an aeroplane is grounded awaiting a part,” says Pacitti. “We also deliver blood when it’s needed to save lives, or legal documents that just have to get to court.
