Planting for a Greener Future
Announced earlier this year, our partnership is geared towards contributing to Earth Restoration Service's ambitious goal of planting 50,000 trees and creating enough wildflower habitats to attract over 20 million insects across 1,000 sites nationwide.
Seeds of Knowledge: Educating the Next Generation
In conjunction with Earth Restoration Service, Speedy Freight is supporting each school in getting ready for the planting event, arrange the transport of trees and provide educational materials and planting guides so pupils and teachers are best equipped for the planting event.
This week, participating schools will receive 100 native UK flower plugs to plant in and around school grounds. In total 30 schools are taking part in the scheme, with 20 receiving wildflowers over the next week. The remaining 10 will receive tree saplings to plant over the coming weeks.
Speedy Freight's Commitment to Environmental Responsibility
Shaun Sidley, HSQE Manager at Speedy Freight, said: “We are so excited to be partnering with Earth Restoration Service. This initiative does so much for local communities across the UK and we’re looking forward to help make a difference nationwide.
“Since the 1930s, more than half of the UK’s ancient woodland has been destroyed, leading to many wildlife species becoming endangered and the risk of extinction looming large. As such, partnering with Earth Restoration Service gives Speedy Freight the chance to give back to communities and help preserve our planet.
“What’s more, the initiative allows Speedy Freight to help children at schools throughout the country learn more about the environment, thus giving the next generation the chance to get outside and get involved”.
The initiative played a significant role in achieving Speedy Freight’s goal of becoming a Carbon Neutral Business in August this year, by offsetting scope one and scope two emissions via the organisation Carbon Neutral Britain.
By teaming up with Earth Restoration Service, we're giving back to the communities that our nationwide network operates in and contributing to the preservation of UK biodiversity. We are excited to document the next stages of our collaboration.
