Francesca has supported across numerous different functions of the business, continuing to develop her leadership, management, and communication skills.
She has impressed across a range of disciplines and placements within Speedy Freight, including the setup of a freight forwarding team to support our customers who trade internationally in response to Brexit and within the finance side of the business.
She has supported the management of one of Speedy Freight’s biggest accounts,
providing warehousing and transport across the UK, as well as with the opening of two new warehouses in Knutsford and Northampton.
She has also gained numerous qualifications including the Transport Management Certificate of Professional Competence, and is a member of the Young Forwarders Network, showcasing a passion for raising her profile within the industry and acting as a spokesperson for the company.
Currently project managing the implementation of a warehouse management system, she continues to impress with her ability to grow her skillset and work alongside stakeholders to ensure the best results for the organisation.
Commenting on Francesca’s win, UKWA judges said: “The quality of entries for this year’s Awards was outstanding, particularly in the category for Young Employee of The Year. What impressed the judges was that Francesca had demonstrated drive and commitment to her role in warehousing, achieving industry qualifications while gaining a wide range of experiences, particularly in implementing a management system across her organisation and supporting the opening of two new warehouses.
“We noted that Francesca is a member of the Young Forwarders Network as well as being an Environmental Champion at Speedy Freight – two key focuses for UKWA. Francesca is a credit to Speedy Freight. She – and her co-winner Jack Fountain of ILG - represent all that is best about our industry, and it is essential that we use role models like them to attract more young talent to the sector.”
Mike Smith, Managing Director at Speedy Freight said: “It was an easy decision to put Francesca forward for the Young Employee of the Year award, she’s achieved fantastic growth within the business and is often trusted to take on senior level responsibilities.
“Francesca is a shining example of what can be achieved through dedication, hard work and passion –
the impact she has had on our business cannot be understated. We are thrilled that she has been named Young Employee of the Year and look forward to seeing her develop even further.”
Francesca Hughes said: “I’m incredibly proud to have won this award for my role at Speedy Freight. My passion for logistics and hunger to improve and learn began at a young age and hearing the fantastic feedback from colleagues and the judges makes all the hard work worthwhile. I’m looking forward to continuing to develop my skills and working my way up the industry.”
