Speedy Freight: Routes Planting Roots
Speedy Freight are delighted to announce their support for Earth Restoration Service. Starting in the month of April, we will be sponsoring their School Tree Nursery and School Flutter Flowers programmes.
From Our Branches to Your Community
Our branches will be funding wildflower meadows consisting of about 100 native wildflowers or tree nurseries of 50 native trees to reforest and reflower school grounds across the UK. Schools will also have the option to choose a combination of both wildflowers and trees.
Speedy Freight will be supporting a minimum of thirty schools in partnership with Earth Restoration Service to support their goal of planting more than 50,000 trees and enough wildflowers to attract 20 million insects to the UK by 2030.
We will also help arrange the transport of the trees and flowers ahead of the planting event.
The Earth Restoration Service
Started in 2001, the Earth Restoration Service is engaged with two main areas to restore the environment: tree planting and creating small-scale wild areas with wildflowers.
These schemes also include hedgerow restoration, wildlife corridors and rewilding streams as part of waterway projects.
They collaborate with schools, community groups, other charities, businesses, landowners and government agencies to create an alliance addressing the challenges of regenerating the Earth. They have a vision to plant another 50,000 trees and enough flowers to attract 20 million insects across 1,000 sites in the UK by 2030.
Their ecological restoration programmes educate children about nature, ecology and climate change. Additionally, they teach the importance of wildlife, insects and invertebrate species like butterflies to our environment.
Through their programmes, they help restore depleted natural areas, whilst teaching the next generation about the importance of nature by engaging them with it first-hand.
Speedy Freight’s collaboration with the Earth Restoration Service will see branches across our network providing trees, plants, and wildflowers and gifting them to local schools across the UK.
The School Tree Nursery Programme
The School Tree Nursery programme plays an important role in reforesting local communities. Schools will receive a Tree Nursery, which is an area set up within school grounds where up to 50 tree saplings of various native tree species are planted and raised.
These trees will stay in the nursery, where they are looked after, until they are big enough to be moved and replanted outside the school in the local community.
The School Flutter Flowers Programme
The School Flutter Flowers programme aims to re-flower an area within school grounds. The students at the school will plant wildflowers that are all native and according to local conditions, creating a small wildflower meadow.
This will support the return of native species of insects and invertebrates to the area, including important species such as butterflies and bees, which are indicator species of an overall healthy environment.
Both programmes help teach the next generations about the environment, ecology, science, climate change and the importance of the natural world.
Nominate Your Local School
Nominate your local school today to benefit from our collaboration with the Earth Restoration Service. Voting will take place during May, keep an eye out for a voting link in May.
From June to December, we will be delivering the tree nurseries and wildflowers to the chosen schools. We’ll be providing transport for the trees and wildflowers, while volunteers across our network will help plant them alongside the Earth Restoration Service and the schools.
We’ll keep you updated throughout the following year, monitoring the progress of our planted trees and wildflowers and showcasing the schools and communities that are benefiting from our collaborative efforts.
At the two-year mark, when the trees are ready to be outplanted from the school nursery and into local communities, we will also provide an update, so you can follow along.
